Australian artists and royal British bookplates

Jessica Le

It may not be well known but a few Australian artists in particular have had a brush with British nobility and royalty designing bookplates!

Adrian Feint (1894 - 1971) was an Australian artist who commanded a strong clientele for his bookplates. Below is one he designed for Edward Prince of Wales (King Edward before abdicating the throne).

Another artist was George David (G.D.) Perrottet who designed the below bookplate for Princess Elizabeth of York (currently Queen Elizabeth II). The bookplate depicts the house at the Royal Lodge, Windsor. The house was a gift from the people of Wales as a sixth birthday gift for Princess Elizabeth.  "y Bwthyn bach to Gwellt" (Thatched roof cottage).
